Owls Take Home Three Lacrosse Weekly LEC Awards From 4-0 Combined Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three Keene State College student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 3/16-3/22.
 
 
Men's Lacrosse
 
Junior defender Ty Cougler (Dover, N.H.) was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season as he dominated on both sides of the field for KSC. In the Owls' first win of the week Cougler had a career day as he recorded four points, matching his point total across his 35 career collegiate games prior to Tuesday's game as he scored a pair of goals (on two shots), while picking up his first two collegiate assists in the 22-10 victory. Cougler also recorded 11 ground balls in the win, his collegiate career-high in a single game for the Owls. When the Owls returned home to open up LEC play on Saturday with the 16-8 win over Salem State University, Cougler tied for the game-high with four caused turnovers on defense for the Owls, while also grabbing five ground balls to round out the Owls' 2-0 week.
 
Cougler and the Owls return to action on the road at Norwich University on Wednesday, March 25, at 4:00 PM.
 
 
Women's Lacrosse
 
Senior midfielder Tess Brown (Londonderry, N.H.) continued to dominate on both sides of the field for the Owls on the week where the Owls went 2-0 on their spring break trip as she was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week. In the opening game of the week, a 9-7 win over Hartwick College, Brown recorded a pair of caused turnovers, a team-high four draw controls, and five ground balls in the win, while also recording six points from four goals and two assists. With her five ground balls in the victory, she moved into first place for the most career ground balls in program history with 252 ground balls and counting. In the Owls' second game of the week, a 9-5 win over Ramapo College, Brown recorded three caused turnovers, four ground balls, and five draw controls, all of which were game highs in the victory, to go with her four points from her goal and three assists.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Nicotera (Medfield, Mass.) continued to hold strong in goal for the Owls over the 2-0 week to earn the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week. In the first win of the week, Nicotera posted a .667 SV% on the game as she made 14 saves on her 21 shots faced, including a pair of saves in the final minute of the contest to hang on for the 9-7 win over HC. In the second win of the week, the Owls' third consecutive win, Nicotera made seven saves in net for a .583 SV% on the day to pick up her third win of the season in goal for KSC.
 
Brown, Nicotera, and the Owls return to action on the road again at Framingham State University on Wednesday, March 25, at 7:00 PM.
