PROVIDENCE, R.I. – 10 Keene State College student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 3/13-3/29.
Softball
Sophomore catcher
Abby Weiterman (West Bend, Wis.) was named the LEC Player of the Week from her performance for the Owls in their 2-2 week. At the plate on the week Weiterman recorded five hits with three of them coming in the Owls' comeback win at Smith College in game one, which included a pair of doubles. In the victory, Weiterman recorded six RBIs, the most in a single game on the season for KSC, while bringing her total on the week to 10 total RBIs.
Weiterman and the Owls return to action at Middlebury College on Wednesday, April 1, at 2:30 PM.
Men's Lacrosse
Junior defender
Ty Cougler (Dover, N.H.) was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season as he continued to dominate on both sides of the field for the Owls in their 2-0 week. Cougler recorded three points as a defender on the week with a pair of assists in the Owls' win at Norwich University to go with a goal in transition in KSC's win over the University of Southern Maine. Over the two games on the week Cougler recorded eight ground balls, including six against USM, while also causing five turnovers. As he continues to increase his dominant lead in caused turnovers in the LEC to 17 ahead of second place.
Cougler and the Owls return to action in an important LEC matchup at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday, April 4, at 12:00 PM.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field
The Owls' 4x100 meter relay team was named the Relay of the Week as the group set a new school record in the event with a time of 48.47. The Owls' relay composed of
Mia Cruz (Nashua, N.H.),
Caroline Cooper (Concord, N.H.),
Elle MacDonald (New Hampton, N.H.), and
Keely Giordano (Milford, N.H.) broke the previous school record, set on May 3 of last season by over a second, besting the previous best mark of 49.66. The relay had the best finish for the Owls on the day as they won the event with the program record setting time.
The 4x100 relay and the Owls return to action at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, April 4, at 10:30 AM.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field
The Owls' 4x100 meter relay team on the men's side was also named the Relay of the week from their performance on the weekend at the UMass Lowell D'Amour Invitational. The relay team composed of
Alex Nimiroski (Tiverton, R.I.),
Ethan Vitello (Jaffrey, N.H.), Sen Von Ranson (Marlboro, Vt.), and
Kyle Thomas (Danbury, Conn.) ran a 42.15 in the relay, just .02 from breaking the school record in the event. The Owls' time on the day saw them finish in third place.
