PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two Keene State College student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 3/2-3/9.
Men's Lacrosse
Senior goalkeeper
Andrew Wiegand (Jefferson, Mass.) was named the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week to open the Owls' season as he continued to be a large part in the Owls being in close games early in the year. In the Owls' 1-1 week, Wiegand continued to hold strong with a 6.5 GAA and 69.7 SV% over the two games. In the Owls' game against Springfield College in the snow early in the week, Wiegand did what he could to keep the Owls in the contest as he tied his career-high making 16 saves and allowed just six goals. In KSC's win over the University of New England on Saturday, Wiegand made seven saves in goal to give the Owls their second win of the season.
Junior defender
Ty Cougler (Dover, N.H.) was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season from his record setting week for the Owls. Cougler dominated on defense for the Owls this week as he recorded nine caused turnovers and 14 ground balls in KSC's 1-1 week. In the Owls' first game of the week, Cougler opened the contest up with a bang as he caused a turnover and then scored a goal on the other side of the field to give KSC the lead early on in the contest. Across the entire game, Cougler recorded a game-high five caused turnovers to go with his team-high six ground balls. In the Owls' 10-7 win on Saturday, Cougler set the new career program record for caused turnovers, as just a junior, as his game-high four caused turnovers in the win pushed him past the 86-career caused turnover mark to set the new program record, to go with his game-high eight GBs.
Wiegand, Cougler, and the Owls return to action on the road at Rhodes College next weekend for their spring break trip on Sunday, March 15, at 2:00 PM.
