CASTLETON, Vt. – The Keene State College men's lacrosse team piled on the goals early and often on Wednesday afternoon as 10 first quarter goals helped the Owls cruise to the 20-6 victory over Vermont State University Castleton.

How it Happened
Caleb White opened the scoring for the Owls with a goal 57 seconds into the contest before the Spartans answered right back with a goal 28 seconds later to tie the game up at one apiece. The rest of the opening quarter the Owls went on to score nine consecutive goals to take a 10-1 lead after the first.

Sean Bosworth, and
Ben Tukey all scored goals to give the Owls a 6-0 lead with 8:26 remaining in the first. After finding out he was named to the NCAA Division III Team of the Week for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA),
Ty Cougler continued to score goals as a long pole defender with another goal, which was the eventual game winner, for KSC's seventh of the game. White scored goal eight for KSC, while
Cole Ricardi added a pair of points on the last two goals by assisting another Souza goal and then scoring goal number 10 for KSC in the quarter from
Dylan Seymour.
The contest slowed down in the second quarter as just one goal was scored over the 15-minute period as
Cameron Smith entered the crease for KSC after
Andrew Wiegand made a pair of saves in his first quarter of action, Smith made three saves in net over his shutout second quarter of time in net. Finn Maniaci made four saves in net for the Spartans in the quarter, but KSC sent one shot past him as
Jaheim Lancaster assisted on
Jared Martin's first collegiate goal with 4:31 remaining in the half, giving KSC the 11-1 lead heading into halftime.
KSC added a pair of goals early in the second half, increasing the scoring run to 12 goals in a row as Tukey assisted Ricardi on the first of the pair and Souza netted his third of the game soon after for the 13-1 lead. The scoring run reached 13 soon after as
Dylan Seymour scored with 8:32 remaining following a caused turnover from Ricardi for KSC. The rest of the third Castleton found the back of the net twice to bring the score to 14-3 for KSC heading into the final quarter.
Both teams combined for nine goals over the fourth quarter with KSC doubling up Castleton 6-3 over the 15 minutes to close the contest out. Lancaster and Ricardi opened the scoring in the fourth up with a goal apiece before Matt Gregoire scored a man-up goal for Castleton to end the scoring run. The Owls had another short scoring run of three goals in as many minutes with Ricardi,
Sebastian Foresi, and
Liam Connerty (from Brady Levasseur) each scoring to put KSC ahead 19-4 with 4:51 remaining. Castleton recorded a pair of goals 23 seconds apart before
Kyle O'Connor recorded his first collegiate point on an assist to
Parker Wallace's first goal of the season, cementing the 20-6 win for KSC.
Inside the Crease
- With the win, KSC moves to 8-0 in the all-time series between the two teams, winning by an average score of 13.5 goals.
- Ricardi led the Owls attack with a new career-high and game-high five points from his game-high and also a new career-high four goals to go with an assist.
- Souza was close behind Ricardi with three goals as he has scored a goal in the three most recent contests for the Owls.
- White was the only other Owl to score a pair of goals or more with his two goals today, while 11 other Owls netted a single goal in the win.
- Smith made three saves in net over his quarter of shutout action, while Wiegand, Sam Giuliotti, and Matt Pacheco each made two saves apiece in each of their quarters in net.
- KSC had the advantage on faceoffs on the day, going 19-for-29 (65.5%) with Braydan Dwyer going 14-for-19 (73.7%) and Jake Antuna going 5-for-10 (50%) for the Owls.
- The Owls went 21-for-23 (91.3%) on clears, while limiting Castleton to 21-for-31 (67.7%) on clear attempts on the day.
