KEENE, N.H.. 10/13/01 - Jessica Williams (Nashua, N.H.) had
three goals and Lauren Dayne (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added three
assists to lead the Keene State College women's soccer team to a
5-0 Little East Conference win over Rhode Island College in Keene
on Saturday.
It was the sixth straight win for KSC (13-3, 3-1 LEC). R.I.
College (8-4-2, 3-1-1 LEC) suffered its first conference loss of
the season.
Williams scored all of her goals in the first half. She put the
Owls ahead 1-0 on a penalty corner. After Melissa Bergeron
(Claremont, N.H.) put KSC on top 2-0 with her sixth goal of the
season, Williams scored the next two goals to give KSC a 4-0
half-time lead. Dayne assisted on both of the goals.
'The ball was at my feet all day,' said Williams, who now has a
team leading eight goals. 'My teammates did a great job of getting
me the ball in good scoring positions.'
Sweeper Aleisha Nelly (Guilford, CT) completed the scoring in
the second half when she lofted a ball into the top corner of the
net from 35-yards out. It was her first collegiate goal.
Keene State had a 27-6 shot advantage. Michelle Mason (Fairport,
NY) made three saves for her fourth consecutive shutouts, and
eighth of the year.
Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Jamie Hinman
(Burlington, Conn), who took over in goal midway in the second
half, each had seven saves for the Anchorwomen.
Keene State will host Eastern CT in a LEC game on Tuesday (5
p.m.).
