SALEM, MA. 10/22/01 - The 21st-ranked Keene State College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 2-1 non-conference victory over Salem State College in Salem, MA. on Monday.
With the victory, Keene State improves to 14-3. Salem State drops to 6-8-2.
The Owls took a 1-0 half-time lead on a penalty kick goal by Casey Banks. It was his ninth goal of the season. A perfect passing play that went from John Cortese to Mike Monteiro to eventual goal scorer Jeff Dupont gave KSC a 2-0 lead minutes into the second half. Dupont took the through ball and scored his second goal of the season.
"We had a sluggish first half, but showed a spark in the second half," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher, who rested many of his top players in the game.
D.J. Nordmark, who had 3 saves, lost his shutout with five minutes to play when Andy Wills scored for the Vikings. Jason Zahn stopped 11 shots for Salem State.
Keene State will travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. game.
