KEENE, NH . 10/23/01 - Jessica Williams (Nashua, NH) had the
hattrick and Jennifer Ortisi (Allenstown, NH) added two goals to
lead the Keene State College women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory
over UMA-Dartmouth in a quarterfinal Little East Conference
Tournament game played Tuesday in Keene.
Seeded third in the Tournament, Keene State improves to 16-4.
They will face #2 seed Eastern Connecticut on Friday (2:30 p.m.) in
a semifinal game at Willimantic, CT UMA-Dartmouth, the sixth seed,
concludes its season with a 7-8-1 mark.
Taking a lead pass from Suzanne Heinkel (Amherst, NH), Williams
gave KSC a 1-0-lead 4:38 into the game. Willliams extended the lead
to 2-0 later in the half when she finished a crossing pass from
Beth Vachon (Amherst, NH). Making two great saves on shots by Ortis
and Amy Lamson (Bridgewater, MA.) Christina Nunes (Westport, MA.)
kept the Corsairs close until Lisa Germano (W. Springfield, MA.)
scored to make it a 2-1 game at half time.
Finishing the game with 42 shots, the Owls finally broke through
in the second half with Ortisi scoring on a rebound following a
corner kick and on a fine individual effort when battled past a
couple of UMD defenders for her second of the game and seventh of
the season.
After Andrea Teixeira (Mattapoisett, MA.) scored to make it 4-2
on a shot from 20-yards out, Williams netted her third goal of the
game, a blast into the far corner. She now has a team leading 13
goals this season.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY) had three saves for KSC. Nunes had
a busy night in goal for the Corsairs finishing with 20 saves.
