NEW LONDON, N.H. 10/24/01 - Ranked 21st nationally and third in New England, the Keene State College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to 10 games with a 2-1 non-conference victory over Colby-Sawyer College in New London on Wednesday.
With the victory, Keene State improves to 15-3. Colby-Sawyer drops to 8-7-2. Jason Lombardo (Woburn, MA.) scored both goals for the Owls. KSC got on the board just 1:36 into the game when Lombardo converted a feed from Mike Monteiro (Hudson, MA.).
A breakdown by the Owls' defense enabled Matt Solazzo (Newburyport, MA.) to tie the game six minutes later. The game reMEd deadlock until the second half when Lombardo kicked in a cross from Casey Banks (Westborough, MA.) with 25:12 left on the clock. It was Lombardo's team high 13th goal of the season. "We were very lucky to survive a big scare today," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher.
Keene State goalkeeper Brandon Beck (Johnsotwn, NY) recorded one save while Conor Anderson (Nazareth, Pa.) stopped eight shots for the Chargers, who were undefeated in their last five games (4-0-1).
Keene State wraps up its regular season on the road at UMA-Boston on Saturday (1 p.m.).
