KEENE, NH 10/6/01 - Jason Lombardo (Woburn, MA.) had two goals
including the game-winner with 2:41 to play in the second overtime
to give the Keene State College men's soccer team a thrilling 2-1
win over rival Plymouth State College in a Little East game played
Saturday in Keene.
It was the sixth win in the last seven games for KSC (8-3, 3-0
LEC), who remain undefeated in the LEC. The loss snapped PSC's
(4-4, 2-1 LEC) three game winning streak.
John Harke (Leeds, MA.) broke down the left side and crossed the
ball to Lombardo who beat Panther goalie Scott Laine to the short
corner of the net for the go ahead goal. It was his team-leading
10th goal for Keene State.
The Owls had numerous chances to win the game in regulation and
during the first overtime. Casey Banks (Westborough, NH) was denied
twice by Panther goalie Scott Laine late in the second half and
Fancisco Vasconcelos just missed in the first overtime when his
header sailed just over the cross bar.
Michael Cantelli gave PSC a 1-0 lead before Lombardo tied the
game seven minutes later with a penalty kick goal.
D.J. Nordmark had four saves for the Owls. Scott Laine was
sensational in goal for PSC finishing with 14 saves.
Keene State will host Ramapo College on Wednesday (6p.m.).
