KEENE, NH. 10/6/01 - Melissa Bergeron's (Claremont, NH.) goal
with 2:58 to play in the first overtime lifted Keene State College
to a 1-0 Little East Conference win over rival Plymouth State
Saturday at Owl Stadium Complex.
Bergeron beat a Panther defender and put the ball into the far
corner of the net for the game winner. It was her fifth goal of the
season. 'It was just an instinctive move, ' said the KSC freshman.
'I had to decide which direction to go. I went outside and in a
flash it was in the net.'
The Owls, who outshot the Panthers 24-3, had to work hard for
the win. Beth Vachon (Amherst, NH) had a shot that just went over
the cross bar and Bergeron broke in alone but was denied by PSC
goalie Becky Kennedy late in the game. Carolyn Crawford also hit
the post early in the overtime period.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY) had one save to record her sixth
save of the season for KSC. Becky Kennedy (W. Springfield, MA.) had
a strong game in goal for PSC stopping 14 shots.
It was the fourth straight win for Keene State (11-3, 2-1 LEC).
Plymouth State falls to 5-6, (2-2LEC).
Keene State will be at Anna Maria College on Wednesday (3:30
p.m.).
