KEENE, NH. 9/13/01 - The Keene State College women's soccer team
improved its record to 4-0 with a non-conference 3-1 victory over
Western New England College in Keene on Thursday.
It was the first night game played by the Owls at their new
grass field. The Owls scored the first three goals of the game, all
in the first half. Katie Parkinson (South Kingstown, RI) put in a
rebound to give KSC a 1-0 lead. Jennifer Ortisi (Allenstown, NH)
headed in a corner drive from Jessica Williams (Nashua, NH) to make
it 2-0. Melissa Bergeron (Claremont, NH) raced in from the right
side and netted her second goal of the season to extend the Owls'
lead to 3-0. Williams, who had two assists in the game, sent in
Bergeron.
WNEC (2-3) got on the board late in the half on a goal by Molly
Burke (Westfield, MA.) It was her team-leading fourth goal of the
season.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY) made four saves for KSC. Jessica
Vital (Ludlow, MA.) turned away eight shots for the Golden Bears.
Keene State will face regional power Wheaton College in Norton
on Saturday (3 p.m.) and return home to face Framingham State on
Monday (6 p.m.) in a game originally scheduled for last Tuesday.
