NORTH ADAMS, MA. 9/15/01 - Casey Banks' (Westborough, MA.) goal
at the 117: 11 mark of the second overtime enabled Keene State
College to escape with a 1-0 men's soccer victory over MA. College
of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA. on Saturday.
Taking a volley from Matt Lam (Barre, MA.), Banks, a freshman
forward, fired in a crossing shot from just inside the 18-yard box
to give the Owls the win. It was his third goal of the season.
'Once again, one of our freshman came through,' said KSC Coach Ron
Butcher.
KSC had numerous chances to put the game away earlier. In the
first overtime John Harke (Leeds, MA.) missed an open net and Robby
Carson (Goffstown, NH) hit the cross bar with a minute to play in
the period. The Owls dominated play with a 21-2 shot margin
advantage. The Mohawks' only two shots came in the first half. 'We
had plenty of opportunities, we just couldn't put the ball in the
net,' Butcher said.
KSC's Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) had two saves for his first
shutout of the season. MCLA's Peter Ruckdeschel finished with 13
saves.
Keene State will host Westfield State on Wednesday.
