WESTFIELD, MA. 9/19/01 - Celena Chickering's (Keene, NH) goal
with 2:30 left to play in the first overtime gave Keene State
College a 3-2 women's soccer road victory over Westfield State
College on Wednesday.
Chickering, one of the Owls' senior captains, took a crossing
ball from Suzanne Heinkel and beat WSC goalie Natalie Shove for the
game-winner. It was Chickering's first goal of the season.
An upset-minded Westfield State team took a 1-0 lead on a goal
by Liz Rosales at the 33:53 mark. Keene State tied the game on
Jessica Williams (Nashua, NH) first goal of the season with 35
seconds to play in the half. Katie Parkinson gave the Owls their
first lead of the game when she curled in a direct kick for her
third tally of the season. However, Westfield's Ali Jordan sent the
game into overtime with a direct kick goal with 6:16 to play in
regulation.
Michelle Mason had seven saves for KSC, which improves to 6-1.
Shove finished with five saves for Westfield State (1-4).
Keene State will be at Western CT on Saturday (6 p.m.) for a
battle of top LEC teams.
