KEENE, N.H. 9/22/01 - Jason Lombardo's (Woburn, MA.) goal 2:13
into overtime gave Keene State College a 1-0 Little East Conference
men's soccer victory over Western Connecticut in Keene on Saturday.
Keene State, which has won four out of its last five games,
improves to 5-2 (1-0 LEC). Western CT (3-3-3, 0-1 LEC) suffered its
first loss in its last four games.
Jimmy Hogan (Holderness, NH) set up Lombardo's goal, his fourth
of the season. 'It was on a quick counter, I knew with Lombardo's
speed he could beat the fullback and I just put it through to him,'
said Hogan. 'I saw Jimmy with the ball, saw a slot, and made a nice
angle run,' Lombardo said. 'He played a nice ball through on the
ground and I slid it in the side post.'
Lombardo had missed a scoring opportunity midway in the first
half. He broke in alone but was denied by Colonial goalie Mark
Pataky (Trumbull, CT) who made a diving save.
Both teams's battled through a scoreless second half until
Lombardo's overtime game-winner.
Owl goalie D.J. Nordmark (So. Windsor, CT) made five saves to
notch his fourth shutout of the season. Pataky finished with seven
saves for WCSU.
Keene State will be at Williams College (4:15) on Wednesday.
