DANBURY, CT 9/22/01 - The Keene State College women's soccer
team dropped its Little East Conference opener to Western
Connecticut 2-1 in Danby, CT on Saturday.
The Colonials Cherie Bailey scored two goals in the first seven
minutes of play to stake WCSU to a early 2-0 lead. The Owls cut the
deficit in half when freshman Melissa Bergeron (Claremont, NH)
picked up a carom inside the 18-yard marker and beat Western CT
goalie Kristen Bartholomew (Bethel, CT) on the outside post. It was
Bergeron's third goal of the season.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY) made five stops for KSC.
Bartholomew finished with six saves for the Colonials.
KSC falls to 6-2 (0-1 LEC). WCSU improves to 8-1 (1-0 LEC). The
game was a re-match of last season's LEC Championship game when
WCSU edged KSC in overtime.
