KEENE, N.H. 9/26/01 - Britt Kittelsen's (Minneapolis, MN) goal
with 2:33 to play gave Middlebury College a come-from-behind
women's soccer victory over host Keene State College on Wednesday.
Melissa Bergeron (Claremont, NH) led KSC with a goal and two
assists.
The Owls took a 2-0 lead, scoring two goals within a six- minute
span midway in the first half. Beth Vachon (Amherst, NH) took a
centering pass and went top shelf for her second goal of the season
and Bergeron made it a 2-0 game went she was sent in alone and
netted her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Middlebury cut the lead in half with seven minutes to play on a
goal by Michaela Dietz (Cooperstown, NY).
After the Panthers tied the game on a goal by Leah
Cumsky-Whitlock (Newton, MA.), Keene State took its last lead of
the game on a goal by Jen Ortisi (Allenstown, NH). Following a
throw-in by Bergeron, Vachon fed the ball to Ortisi, who had the
ball go off her shoulder into the net. It was her second goal of
the season.
Middlebury came right back to tie the game four minutes later on
a goal by Meg Bonney (Norwich, Vt.). With time running out
Kittleson got the game-winner when she picked up a lose ball in the
crease and slid it past Owl goalie Michelle Mason into the open
net.
Mason, who made several outstanding saves for KSC, finished with
eight saves. Ali Connolly (Marblehead, MA.) had five saves for the
Panthers (5-2).
Keene State (7-3) returns to LEC play on Saturday when they
travel to Southern ME.
