GORHAM, ME 9/29/01 - Jennifer Ortisi (Allenstown, NH) and Celena
Chickering (Keene, NH) scored second half goals to lead the Keene
State College women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over the
University of Southern ME in Gorham, Me., on Saturday.
It was the first Little East Conference win of the season for
KSC (8-3, 1-1 LEC). Southern ME falls to 3-6, (0-3 LEC). After a
scoreless first half, the Owls got on the board with Ortisi's third
goal of the season. Following up Jessica Williams's (Nashua, NH)
initial shot, Ortisi drove the ball into the net when USM goalie
Mary Ansley couldn't handle the rebound.
Chickering's third goal of the season gave Keene State a 2-0
lead seven minutes later. The Owls' senior captain took a pass out
in the wing from Colleen Antonini (Plymouth, MA.) and fired in a
shot from 14-yards out.
'We didn't play well in the first half,' said KSC Coach Denise
Lyons. 'Fortunately, we were able to pick it up in the second half
and get the road conference victory.'
Not tested all afternoon, KSC goalie Michelle Mason (Fairport,
NY) didn't make a save in recording her fourth shutout of the
season. Ansley turned away eight shots for the Huskies.
Keene State will be at Bridgewater State on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
