'KEENE, N.H. 10/22/02 - The Keene State College men's soccer
team broke open a 1-1 game with two goals in the second half to
defeat Eastern Connecticut State 3-1 in a Little East
Conference game at Owl Stadium Complex on Tuesday.
Undefeated in its last six games, KSC improves to 10-4-2 (3-1-1
LEC) while Eastern CT falls to 7-7-1 (2-2-1 LEC).
Casey Banks (Westborough, MA.) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead at the
13:59 mark when he headed in a crossing pass from Niklas Brosnan
(Shelburne, N.H.). Brian Fitzgerald (Marlborough, CT) scored
with 5:51 left in the half to tie the game 1-1 going into the
break.
Twenty minutes into the second half the Owls got the go-ahead
goal from Jason Lombardo (Woburn, MA.) on a nice passing play. Joey
Amaio (Wethersfield, CT) crossed the ball to John Harke
(Northampton, MA.) who set up Lombardo for the score. It was
Lombardo's team-leading ninth goal of the season.
The Owls scored an insurance goal with five minutes to play when
an ECSU defender deflected a ball into his net for an own goal.
D.J. Nordmark (South Windsor, CT), who finished with six saves,
had another solid game in goal for KSC. Arthur Lubniewski
(Newington, CT) stopped seven Owl shots for ECSU.
Keene State travels to UMA Dartmouth for a LEC contest on
Saturday (1 p.m.).
