'WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. 10/9/02 - The Keene State College women's
soccer team saw its five game winning streak come to an end with a
2-1 non-conference loss to Williams College in a battle of
nationally ranked teams, Wednesday in Williamstown, MA.
Ranked #14 nationally and second in New England, KSC goes to
9-2-1. Williams ranked #24 and fourth regionally improves to
8-2.
The winning goal by the Ephs's Sharla Dodd came a controversial
offsides play.
Williams took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Blair Coffman at the 21:59
mark of the first half. KSC tied the game with less than a
minute to go in the half on a free direct kick by Erin Lester
(Walpole, N.H.). Lester now has nine goals this season.
The two teams battled into the second half with Williams netting
the winning goal and the Owls unable to get the equalizer.
"We just ran out of steam, " said KSC Coach Denise Lyons.
"They're a very a very good team with a lot of depth."
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) made nine saves for the Owls
while Lindsay Starner finished with five saves for Williams.
KSC returns home to face rival Plymouth State on Saturday (1
p.m.).
