'KEENE, NH 11/16/02 - Ben Swan's (Kailua Kona, Hawaii) goal at
the 10:47 mark of the second half was the difference as Arcadia
University defeated host Keene State College in a NCAA New England
Regional Tournament semifinal game played Saturday at Owl Stadium
Complex.
Swan's game-winner came on a rebound shot. After KSC
goalie D.J. Nordmark (South Windsor, CT) made a diving save on a
shot by Tom DeGeorge (Philadelphia, PA.), Swan jumped on the
rebound and put the ball into the far corner of the net.
Although the Owls were able to keep the ball in the Arcadia side
of the field throughout the second half, they were unable to muster
a quality shot on net. Following the goal, the Scarlet
Knights packed the zone further hampering KSC's attempt to tie the
game.
The two teams played a scoreless first half. Arcadia had
the best scoring opportunity early in the first half when Gary
Beaver (Red Lion, PA.) broke in from the left side and was stopped
by Nordmark.
Keene State's best chance came at the 5:30 mark on a blast from
Jason Lombardo (Woburn, MA.) at the right corner of the box.
Both teams finished the game with seven shots on goal and four
corner kicks. Arcadia goalie Ralph Giangiulio (Marlton, N.J.)
had four saves to notch the shutout. Nordmark made four saves
for Keene State.
Making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past six
years, Keene State concludes its season with a 13-5-3 record.
Arcadia (20-3) advances to the regional championship against
Williams College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Williams defeated defending Division III national champion
Richard Stockton College 4-1 in the day's other semifinal contest.
