Owls Win A Pair At Cape Cod Baseball Classic

NORTHEASTHAM, MA. - 3/10/02 -  The Keene State College baseball team improved its record to 3-0 with a pair of wins in the Cape Cod Baseball Classic held at Northeastham's Nauset High School on Sunday.





The highlight for KSC was a 13-9 come-from-behind win over Franklin Pierce College.  The Owls also beat St. Michael's College 6-3.





FPC took a 9-3 lead with three runs in the fifth inning that included a two-run triple by freshman Bear Dunn.  But the Owls scored 10 unanswered runs in their last three at bats, including five in the eighth.





The big hits in the eighth was a two-run double by Justin Hickman  (Mont Vernon, N.H.). Travis Muckle (Bennington, Vt.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.) went 2-for-4, and Hickman had a pair of hits and three RBIs. 





Freshman Patrick Austin (Wallingford, CT) picked up the win in relief of senior starter Andrew Cuthbertson (LaFargeville, NY).





After beating the Ravens, KSC went on to a 6-3 triumph over St. Michael's in a game shortened to six innings due to darkness.  Jim Slack (Manchester, N.H.) picked up the win with two innings of shutout relief. 

Corey Hartson (Merrimack, N.H.) went the first four innings.





Keene native John Trubiano led the offense with a 4-for-4 day and Josh Coughlin (Keene, NH) went 2-for-4. Freshman Mike MAeur (Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for2 and hit a home run and Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.) was 2-for -3.



KSC will make its annual trip to Florida next week.
