Owls Drop 10-7 Game To Pikeville College

COCOA BEACH, FLA. 3/18/02 - The Keene State College baseball team saw its record dip to 4-2 after losing 10-7 to Pikeville (Ky.) College on Monday at Cocoa Beach Expo in Florida.

Pikeville, a Division I NAIA team went up 10-0 after four innings.  After KSC Coach Ken Howe made several changes in his line-up, the Owls responded by getting back in the game.

Highlighted by a two-run double from Drew Delorme (Enosburg Falls, Vt.), KSC scored three runs in the sixth inning.  They added four more in the seventh with Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, NH) scoring two runs with a double down the left field line. Hickman finished the game with a pair of hits in three at bats.

"Up until the sixth inning, everyone was hitting pop ups," said Howe.  "When I made the changes, we started hitting the ball on the ground and being more aggressive."

Starter Andrew Cutherberston (Lafargeville, NY) got rocked in his 3  1/3 innings of work on the mound giving up six earned runs.  Michael Corsano (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Brian St. George (East Hartford, CT) each worked a scoreless inning in relief.

The Owls will look to get back on the winning track when they play Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison on Tuesday.
