Fairleigh Dickerson-Madison Overtakes Owls 4-3

COCOA BEACH, FLA. 3/19/02 - Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison University scored three runs in the seventh inning to post a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Keene State College in Cocoa Beach Expo on Tuesday.

After winning their first game in Florida, the Owls (4-3) have now dropped three straight.

Keene State went ahead 3-0 in the game.  The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the first on singles by Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.) and Josh Coughlin (Keene, NH) and a fielder's choice out by Travis Muckle (Bennington, Vt.).

They added another run in the third on a RBI single by Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, NH) and made it 3-0 on Hickman's run-scoring double in the sixth.

Corey Hartson (Merrimack, NH) pitched well in his 5  1/3 innings on the mound.  He gave up just one unearned run on two hits and had two strikeouts and four walks.

KSC Coach Ken Howe brought Tyer in to pitch in the sixth inning and after getting out of a jam the junior reliever had control problems in the seventh.  FDU Madison loaded the bases and took the lead on a gap shot to centerfield that scored two runs.  There was also a controversial balk in the inning.

Coughlin and Hickman each had a couple hits in the Owls 7-hit attack.

"It was a tough loss," admitted Howe.  I though we played well, but there were a couple of questionable calls in the seventh inning.  But to their credit, they got the key hits when it mattered."

After a day off, the Owls will play Olivet Nazarene University of Illinois on Thursday.
