Owls fall To Olviet Nazarene 11-4

COCOA BEACH, FLA. 3/21/02 - Yesterday's day off didn't help turn Keene State College's fortunes around as the Owls lost 11-4 to Olivet Nazarene University in a baseball game played Thursday in Cocoa Beach, Fla..

After winning its first four games of the season, Keene State (4-4) has now dropped four straight.  "It wasn't very pretty," said KSC Coach Ken Howe.  "I wish it rained today."

"At this point I'm very concern," he added.  "Players aren't doing what's expected of them.  We need someone to break out and get us going."

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Travis Muckle (Bennington, Vt.), it was down hill the rest of the way for the Owls, who committed four errors, many prolonging innings.

Olivet Nazarene, a NAIA Division I team located in Bourbonnais, Ill., scored runs in every inning except the third.

KSC did come back to score three runs in the fifth. Muckle, who went 3-for-3, had his second RBI of the game in the inning.

Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.) also had a couple of hits for the Owls.

Pitching against his former team, starter Buzzy Francis (1-2) had another tough outing.  The senior from Bedford, NH., gave up seven runs (six earned) with four strikeouts and four walks in 4 1/3 innings.  Freshman Mike Corsano (Cortlandt, Manor, N.Y.) didn't fair much better giving up four runs in 2  2/3 innings of work.

It doesn't get any easier for KSC that faces Oneonta State and UMA-Lowell, a Division II World Series team, on Friday.
