Cuthbertson One-Hits Springfield College

KEENE, N.H. 4/5/02 - Andrew Cuthbertson (LaFargeville, N.Y.) pitched a complete game one hitter and John Trubiano (Keene, NH) hit a grand slam home run to lift Keene State College to a 7-0 victory over Springfield College in a non-conference baseball game played Friday at Owl Stadium Complex.

Cuthbertson, a senior right hander, had his no-hit bid broken up by Dan Burton (Camden, NY), who hit a sharp single to centerfield with one out in the top of the ninth inning.

"I just gave it all I had, but I got the pitch up a little bit," said Cuthbertson about the hit.  "It would have been nice to get the no-hitter, but we got the win.  That's what really counts."

"I just tried to stay ahead of the hitters and get ground balls, added Cuthbertson (1-1) who struck out four and walked two to notch his first win of the season. "After a shaky start in Florida, I just tried to bear down and my defense played great behind me."

Ben Tyer (Leer, MA.) and Trubiano provided the offense for the Owls.  Tyer hit a two run single in the first inning. Following a run-producing single by Josh Coughlin (Keene, NH) in the second, Trubinao cleared the bases with his first home run in a KSC uniform. "He threw it inside and I hit it pretty solid," said the junior outfielder.

It was the fourth straight win for KSC (8-8).

Aaron Linder (Enfield, CT) took the loss for the Pride (8-8).

Keene State will face R.I. College in a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday (12 p.m.).
