Owls Sweep Rhode Island College

KEENE, N.H. 4/6/02 - The Keene State College baseball team swept a Little East Conference doubleheader over R.I. College by the identical scores of 5-3 in Keene on Saturday.

Winners of five straight, the Owls improve to 10-8 (2-2 LEC) while the Anchormen fall to 4-14 (0-4 LEC).





Mike MAeur (Warwick, RI), who finished with two hits, had a two-run double in the Owls' three-run first inning of the opener.  Nick Bujeuad (Lincoln, NH) and John Trubiano (Keene, NH) also collected two hits in the game.





Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.) (2-1) pitched into the eighth inning before needing relief help from Jim Slack (Manchester, NH), who picked up the save. 





Michael Luke (Cranston, RI) and Sean McNamara (Warwick, RI) had two hits each for RIC, which rallied for a run in the seventh, and two more in the eighth.  Seth DeCorte (Chepachet, RI) (1-1) took the loss for the Anchormen.





The Owls scored four runs in the seventh inning on the way to their come-from-behind win in the nightcap. KSC tied the game 1-1 on a Matt Orsuzulak (Campton, NH) double and sacrifice fly by Trubiano in the sixth.  A two run triple by Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, NH) and a RBI single from Trubiano highlighted the seventh inning uprising.





RIC got two runs back in the ninth before Slack came in to notch his second save of the day.  Russ Barron and Mechael Melucci had two hits each for the Anchormen.





Buzzy Francis (Bedford, NH) (4-2) pitched eight strong innings striking out seven and walking four to pick up the win for KSC. Matthew Bannon took the loss (1-3) despite striking out 10 Owl batters for RIC.

KSC will host Castleton State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
