Owl Baseball Edge UMA-Dart 4-3

KEENE, N.H. 5/7/02 - John Trubino's (Keene, N.H.) RBI hit down the third base line scored Doug Morse (Newport, N.H.) with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning giving Keene State College a dramatic 4-3 victory over UMA-Dartmouth in a Little East Conference Tournament play-in game in Keene on Tuesday.

With the victory fourth seed KSC (22-16) advances to the LEC four-team double-elimination tournament which begins Thursday at top seed Eastern CT  UMA-Dartmouth, the fifth seed, goes to 19-19.

Taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on pitch hit single by Kelly Charbono (Enfield, N.H.), the Owls couldn't hold the lead when UMD answered with two runs in the top of the ninth.  Mike Rahme (E. Providence, R.I.) had a RBI single scoring Brian Pereira (New Bedford, MA.) who had reached on a two-base throwing error.  Brett Simarrian's infield hit brought home Rahme with the tying run.

Morse opened the bottom of the ninth with a double.  Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.) was intentionally walked and Patrick Austin singled to load the bases.  That set the stage for Trubiano's winning hit on the first pitch delivered by Corsair pitcher Kyle Darrow (Marlboro, MA.).

Playing in his final home game at Owl Stadium, Morse, a senior, went three-for-three with two doubles and a triple.  Austin, Trubiano, and Mike MAeur (Warwick, R.I.) also had two hits each for KSC.  Rahme went two-for-four for UMD.

Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.) in relief of starter Andrew Cuthbertson (Lafargeville, N.Y.) got the win to improve to 5-2.  Darrow (3-3) took the loss for the Corsairs.

In the other LEC Tournament play-in game third seed beat sixth seed Plymouth State 4-2.
