'KEENE, N.H. 9/17/02 - Keene State College broke open a close
game with three goals in a span of a minute and four seconds late
in the first half enroute to a 4-0 shutout victory over Salem State
College in a non-conference men's soccer game played Tuesday in
Keene.
It was the third straight win for KSC (4-2) while Salem State
drops to 2-2.
Keene State got on the board at the 4:50 mark when Jason
Lombardo (Woburn, MA.) finished off a crossing pass from Chris
Barker (Pembroke, N.H.) to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. It was
Lombardo's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
After outstanding saves by KSC goalie D.J. Nordmark (South
Windsor, CT) and the Vikings' Matt Davison (Harvard, MA.), KSC took
control with three quick goals. Casey Banks' shot hit off a
SSC defender for an own goal, Dermott O' Sullivan (No. Salem, N.Y.)
headed in a corner kick to make it 3-0, and Mike Monteiro (Hudson,
MA.) completed the uprising with his first goal of the season.
Nordmark finished with five saves to notch his second shutout of
the season and the 12th of his career. Davison had two saves for
the Vikings.
Keene State will be at Amherst College for a battle of top
regional team on Thursday (4:30 p.m.).
