'DANBURY, CT. 9/28/02 - Phil Taborda's goal on a penalty
kick with 12 minutes to play stood up as the game-winner in Western
Connecticut State University's 1-0 men's soccer victory over Keene
State in Danbury on Saturday. It was the Little East Conference
opener for both teams.
Owl defender Steve Curry was whistled for taking down Taborda in
the box and the WCSU forward beat KSC goalie D.J. Nordmark (South
Windsor, CT) with a shot to the top right corner.
Keene State, which had a tough time on the Colonels turf field,
managed just one shot on goal in the game.
"Once again we didn't come to play," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher
about his Owls, who were shutout for the second time this
season.
Normark finished the game with four saves. Mark Pataky
needed just one save to post the shutout for the Colonels.
Keene State (6-4, 0-1 LEC) will host Williams College on Tuesday
(6;30 p.m.). WCSU improves to 7-0-4, 1-0 LEC).
