'KEENE, NH 9/8/02 - 6th-ranked Rowan University captured the Diadora-Dunkin' Donuts Soccer Showdown Championship with a 4-1 victory over host No. 20 Keene State College in Sunday's second game. Rowan, which improved to 4-0, won both of its tournament games. KSC (1-2) suffered its second straight loss in the tournament.
Rowan's two first half goals came on penalty kicks by David Halliwell (England) and Nick Martinelli (Lancaster, PA). Sandwiched between those goals was a KSC goal by Jason Lombardo (Woburn, MA.). The junior forward redirected a pass from Jason Simone (N Salem, NY) for his second tally of the season.
Rowan extended its lead to 4-1 early in the second half on goals by Robert Moore (Millville, NJ) and Kenada Putmon (Williamstown, NJ).
Both KSC goalie D.J. Nordmark (S. Windsor, CT) and Rowan's Ryan Dixon had seven saves each. Richard Dominiak (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Martinelli of Rowan were selected as defensive and offensive MVP of the Tournament respectively.
