'KEENE, N.H. 10/1/03 - Jennifer Ortisi's (Allenstown, N.H.) goal
at the 49:23 mark of the second half stood up as the game-winner in
Keene State College' s 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory
over Endicott College in Keene on Wednesday.
Ortisi's goal, her fifth this season, came minutes into the
second half when she put Tara Wagner's (Avon, Conn.) cross into the
short side of the net. KSC missed several chances to add to its
lead later in the game.
Even though the Owls controlled play in the early going,
Endicott had the best opportunities to get on board in the
scoreless first half. Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow,
Mass.) was taken down in the box, and KSC goalie Michelle Mason
(Fairport, N.Y.) knocked away Jessica Scholt's penalty kick and
subsequent shot. Minutes later Mason made a one-handed diving
save on Leah Walters (Brookline, Mass.) bid for a goal.
KSC's best chance to score came in the closing minutes with Erin
Lester (Walpole, N.H.) heading a corner kick off the cross bar and
Jennifer Ortisi (Allenstown, N.H.) missing on the rebound attempt.
D'Amario had a chance to tie the game with 53 seconds to play in
the game, but Mason came out and smothered the shot.
Mason had five saves for KSC to notch her fourth shutout of the
season. Sarah Nichols (Middletown, Conn.) finished with 12
saves for the Gulls (7-2-1). KSC (6-3-1) has won all five
meetings between the two teams.
The Owls are at Southern Maine on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. LEC
game.
