'WIILMANTIC, CONN. 10/18/03 - Junior forward Jason
Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.) had record tying four goals and an assist,
including two penalty kick scores, to lead the Keene State College
men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Eastern Conn., in a Little
East Conference contest played Saturday in Willimantic, Conn.
With the victory, KSC improves to 9-5-1 (2-1-1 LEC) while ECSC
falls to 4-9-2 and 1-4 in conference play.
Lombardo, who takes over the team scoring lead with 10 goals,
opened the scoring at the 24:17 mark when he beat three defenders
to the ball and raced in to beat Warrior goalie Dan Murphy. Taken
down twice in the box, Lombardo scored on penalty kick to make it
2-0 at halftime and increased the lead to 3-0 with his second PK of
the game at the 60:38 mark of the second half.
Lombardo sent Eric Scott in for a goal to make it 4-0 seven
minutes later. Lombardo completed his career day with his
fourth goal of the game at the 82:23 that tied an Owl record held
by Rit Swain (1971) and Jesus Menendez (1987)
KSC's Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) made three saves in his 84
minutes in goal and Matt Caron (Amston, Conn.) turned aside two
shots over the final six minutes to share the shutout. Dan
Murphy (1 saves, three goals) and Erik Greb (three saves, two
goals) saw action in net for the Warriors.
The Owls return home on Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.) to host
Western New England College.
