'PROVIDENCE, R.I. 10/25/03 - Jason Lombardo (Woburn,
Mass.) had two goals, including the game-winner at the 53:19 mark
of the second half, to lead the Keene State College men's soccer
team to a 3-2 Little East Conference victory over Rhode Island
College in Providence on Saturday.
Lombardo, who headed in a cross from John Harke (Leeds, Mass.)
for the winner, has been on fire for the Owls scoring eight goals
in the last three games.
Lombardo opened the scoring for KSC (11-5-1, 3-1-1 LEC) with a
penalty kick goal. Harke made it a 2-0 game seven minutes
later when he scored off an indirect kick.
The Anchormen cut the lead in half on a penalty kick goal by the
LEC's top scorer Kyle Teixeira, his 24th goal of the season.
RIC tied the game early in the second half on a goal by Joe
MacKinnon.
Lombardo came to the rescue for KSC scoring four minutes
later with his team-leading 14th goal of the season.
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) had two saves for KSC while
Jason Nelson finished with 11 saves for RIC.
It was the first loss in six games for the Anchormen (11-5, 5-1
LEC) who also suffer their first defeat in league play.
KSC is right back in action with a make-up LEC game at Southern
Maine (1 p.m.) on Sunday.
