'KEENE, N.H. 10/7/03 - Keene State College got goals from four
different players on the way to posting a 4-1 non-conference men's
soccer victory over Babson College at Owl Athletic Complex on
Tuesday.
Keene State improves to 7-4-1 while Babson goes to 5-5-2.
KSC missed an opportunity to score in the opening minutes when
Babson goalie Tom Anderson (Naperville, Ill.) got his hand on a
drive by Joey Amaio (Wethersfield, Conn.) who came in on a
two-on-one break with Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.)
Babson scored the first goal of the game, a header by Shaun
Dowell (Vienna, Va.) on a cross from Matt Kersker (Beverly,
Mass.), but Keene State answered with the next four goals of the
contest.
Casey Banks (Westborough, Mass.) tied the game 1-1 at the 29:45
mark when he knocked in John Harke's (Leeds, Mass.) centering pass
for his seventh goal of the season. With six minutes to play
in the half, Lombardo put KSC up 2-1. The junior forward got his
foot on Steve Curry's (Lyme, Conn.) free kick into the box and
directed the ball into the net for his sixth goal of the season.
KSC added to its lead in the second half. John Cortese
(Wilbraham, Mass.) put in Luke Trill's (Northfield, Mass.) drive
into the box to make it 3-1 and Jimmy Hogan's (Holderness, N.H.)
header increased the lead to 4-1.
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) had three saves for KSC while
Anderson finished with five saves for the Beavers.
The Owls hosts rival Plymouth State University on Saturday (1
p.m.).
