'KEENE, N.H. 11/1/03 - Junior forward John Harke (Leeds, Mass.)
tied a school record with four goals to lead the Keene State
College men's soccer team to a 7-1 regular-season ending Little
East Conference victory over UMass-Dartmouth in Keene on Saturday.
Harke has 10 goals this season and seven in the Owls' last three
games. He is the second KSC player to tie the record this fall.
Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.) netted four goals against Eastern
Conn. earlier this year.
It was the sixth straight win for KSC (13-5-1, 5-1-1 LEC), who
now gets set to host a LEC Tournament semifinal game on Wednesday
(6 p.m.) against R.I. College which lost 3-0 to Plymouth
State. UMD falls to 5-8-3 (2-5 LEC).
UMass-Dartmouth jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:44 mark on a
goal by Tiago Pinto (New Bedford, Mass.), but KSC roared back to
score the next seven goals.
KSC took a 2-1 lead on Harke 's first two goals of the
contest. Casey Banks (Westborough, Mass.) set up Harke in
front to knot the score five minutes later. And
Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass.) sent Harke in on a
perfectly executed indirect kick to put the Owls up 2-1.
Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) gave the KSC a 3-1 half-time
lead when he headed in a corner kick off the foot of John Cortese
(Wilbraham, Mass.).
Banks' netted a pair of goals, his 10th and 11th of the season,
and Harke added his third and school record-tying fourth goal of
the game later in the second half.
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) (one saves), Matt Caron (Amston,
Conn.) (0 saves), and James Munsell (Sherborn, Mass.) (0 saves) all
saw action in goal for KSC. Adam Wells (Ashland, Mass.) (two
saves) and Randal Cabral (four saves) were in net for the Corsairs.
Playing in their final home regular-season games, seniors Steve
Curry (Lyme. Conn.), Hickman, and Cortese were honored prior to the
game.
