'KEENE, N.H. 3/21/03 – The Keene State College
baseball team (0-8) remain winless during its spring week trip in
California after losing two games on Friday. The Owls fell to
Pomona-Pitzer 11-5 and were shutout by Claremont Mudd-Scripps
Colleges 13-0 later in the day.
Ryan Kohler (0-2) took the loss for KSC in the opener. The
freshman pitcher from Alstead, N.H., struck out seven but gave up
four runs on five hits in five-plus innings of work.
The Owls fell behind 11-0, before scoring all five of their runs
in the bottom of the eighth inning. Justin Hickman (Mont,
Vernon, N.H.), Travis Muckle (Bennington, Vt.), Bobby Reilly
(Corlandt Manor, N.Y.), and Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.) had RBI
hits for KSC. Hickman and Bujeaud each went two-for-four in
the game.
Keene State collected just five hits in its shutout loss to
Claremont Mudd-Scripps. The hits came off the bats of Bujeaud, John
Trubiano. Patrick Austin (Wallingford, CT), Hickman and Adam
Whitney (Campton, N.H.).
Ben Tyer (Lee, MA.), the Owls' starter, struggled in his two and
two-thirds innings on the mound. He gave seven runs on eights hits
and walked four batters.
The Owls will be looking for its first win of their trip on
Saturday when they face the University of Redlands and Menlo
College in Redlands, Ca.
