'PROVIDENCE, RI – Rhode Island College and Keene State
College split a doubleheader in collegiate baseball action. RIC is
10-7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. The Owls are
2-10 overall and 1-1 in the LEC.
Keene State pounded RIC 10-2 in the first game. Mike MAeur
(Warwick, R.I.) went 5-6 with three RBI and one home run. Travis
Muckle (Bennington, Vt. was 2-4 with one run and two RBI. Buzzy
Francis (Bedford, N.H.)improved to 1-3, hurling six innings with
five strikeouts. The Owls scored three runs in the fifth inning
that included a two-run home run from Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln,
N.H.). KSC added five more in the seventh with MAeuar
conncting for a three-run blast. John Botelho took the loss for
RIC, falling to 2-2 on the season.
The Anchormen exploded for six runs in the eighth inning for a
come-from-behind 8-6 win in game two. Mike Luke and Brian Peer had
key RBI singles in the rally. Eric Gibree was 3-3 with one home
run, three RBI and two runs scored. Jim Milano improved to 2-1,
picking up the win in a relief effort. MAeur, who had eight
straight hits in the twinbill, had three more hits for KSC in the
nightcap. KSC led 6-2 after seven innings. Justin Cox (East
Swanzey, NH) had a two-run double single in the first and John
Trubiano (Keene, NH) had a two-run home run in the third .
KSC starter James Slack (Manchester, N.H.) gave up five hits and
two runs in 6.2 innings, Relievers Pat Austin (Wallingford, CT)and
Andrew Caplice (Marston Mills, MA.), who took the loss, were unable
to hold the lead.
In upcoming action, RIC will host Anna Maria College on Monday,
Apr. 31 at 3 p.m. KSC will play at Springfield College on Wednesday
(3:30 p.m.).
