'AMHERST, MA – Sophomore second baseman Josh
Santry (Allendale, NJ) drilled a three-run home run over the wall
in left field to give the Amherst College baseball team a 6-4
non-league win over visiting Keene State College on Wednesday.
Santry's shot erased a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the sixth
inning, upping Amherst's overall record to 10-6 entering this
weekend's key three-game series at NESCAC West Division foe
Hamilton College.
Junior DH Fran Morales (N. Andover, MA) doubled and singled for
the Jeffs, while rookie first baseman Dave Levinson (Philadelphia,
PA) added a pair of singles and scored a run.
Keene State took an early 4-0 lead with three runs in the first
inning and one in the second, all unearned, off Amherst starter
Jonah Ansell (Oak Park, IL). Amherst's bullpen slammed the door
shut from there, however. First-year Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC)
came on in the third and threw three stellar innings, while
sophomores Kyle Lavery (Westbury, NY) and Ed Imperatore (Tenafly,
NJ) tossed scoreless frames in the sixth and the seventh, and
rookie Rob Anderson (Winnetka, IL) earned his first career save
with two innings of one-hit relief.
Lavery (1-0) picked up the win in his first appearance of the
season.
Keene State (6-12) managed seven hits, including a two-run
double by first baseman Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, MA) and a
double and a single by third baseman Travis Muckle (Bennington,
VT). Senior starter Buzzy Francis (Bedford, NH) surrendered all six
Amherst runs, four of them earned, and took the loss to fall to
1-5. First-year Andrew Caplice (Marston Mills, MA) finished the
game with two innings of one-hit relief.
