'SPRINGFIELD, MA.. 4/2/03– Keene State freshman
Ryan Kohler (Alstead, N.H.), and seniors Corey Hartson (Merrimack,
N.H.) and Buzzy Francis (Bedford, N.H.) combined on a six hit
shutout in the Owls' 1-0 victory over host Springfield College on
Wednesday.
Kohler (1-2) pitched six innings, allowing five hits and
striking out seven to pick up his first college win.
Hartson gave up a hit in his two innings on the mound while
Francis pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out the side to earn
his first save.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the fourth
inning. John Trubiano (Keene, N.H.) led off with a double and
moved to third on a wild pitch. Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon,
N.H.) drive him home with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Pride had two runners on base in the first and sixth inning,
but could not score.
"The game is a big boost for the team and for Ryan" said KSC
Coach Ken Howe. "He pitched some strong games for us earlier
in the season and he's getting better with every outing."
Kohler struck out the side in the second inning.
Jeremy Shilling (Centerville, MA.) went three-for four at the
plate for the Owls. Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.), Hickman,
Justin Cox (East Swanzey, N.H.) also had hits for KSC.
Brian Royal, who hurled eight and two-thirds innings and struck
out nine took the loss for Springfield (4-9).
Keene State (3-10) returns home to face New England College on
Thursday (3 p.m.)
