'KEENE, N.H. 4/25/03 – The Keene State College
baseball team was swept by top ranked (Div.III) and LEC
front-runner Eastern Connecticut State University 4-1 and 10-0 at
Owl Stadium Complex on Friday.
Keene State falls to 9-18 (4-6) LEC while Eastern CT, which set
a school record with its 22nd straight win in the opener, improves
to 31-4 (12-0 LEC).
Keene State lone run in the first game came Mike MAeur's
(Warwick, R.I.) second homerun of the season that tied the game in
the third inning.
ECSU went ahead 3-1 in the sixth on a two-run blast by Dwight
Wildman (Seymour, CT). Greg Sullivan (Needham, MA.) added a solo
shot in the seventh.
The Warriors' Morgan Thompson (Norwalk, CT) saw his program
tying 21 game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for4 in
the game.
Buzzy Francis (Bedford, N.H.) (1-6), who struck out nine, was
the complete game loser for the Owls. Adam Czerwinski (Somers, CT)
(5-2) fanned eight to get the win.
Joey Serfass (Newington, CT) (5-0) tossed eight innings of
three-hit ball for the Warriors in the nightcap. Ryan Kohler
(Alstead, N.H.) (3-3) took the loss for the Owls.
Eastern CT scored three runs on a pair of KSC errors in the
fourth. Wildman and Dan Silva (Berlin, Conn) had RBI hits in
the sixth.
Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.) had a pair of hits for KSC.
Keene State hosts Western Conn in a Sunday LEC doubleheader (12
p.m.).
