'NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 5/3/03 – The Keene
State College baseball team was swept by UMass-Dartmouth 16-5 and
12-4 in a Little East Conference baseball doubleheader played
Saturday at North Dartmouth, Mass.
The pair of losses drops KSC to 11-21 (6-8 LEC) while UMD
improves to 17-15-1 (8-4 LEC).
Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) and Travis Muckle had two hits
each for KSC in the opener. Geoff Nettleton led the Corsairs'
17-hit attack with four hits and six RBIs.
James Slack (Manchester, N.H.) (2-4) took the loss for the
Owls.
UMD picked right up where they left off in the first game with
14 more hits against Owl pitchers in the nightcap. The
Corsairs scored four runs in the first inning and coasted to the
victory.
Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) had two hits including a home
run and two RBIs to lead KSC. John Trubiano (Keene, N.H.),
Justin Cox (East Swanzey, N.H.) and Muckle added two hits each for
the Owls. Muckle also had a pair of RBIs.
Brian Pereira led the Corsairs with three hits and five RBIs.
Ryan Kohler (Alstead, N.H.) (3-4) was the losing pitcher for
KSC.
"The pitching and the hitting went south," said KSC Coach Ken
Howe. "It was not a good way to enter the LEC Tournament."
The LEC Tournament begins on Wednesday.
