'ONEONTA, N.Y. 9/14/03 - The Keene State College women's soccer
team dropped a 3-0 game to the College of New Jersey in a battle of
top ranked teams at the Oneonta (N.Y.) State Red Dragon Cup
Tournament on Sunday.
Ranked 11th in the Division III poll, KSC (3-2) was outshot 20-5
by seventh ranked TCNJ (4-1). "We ran out of steam," said KSC Coach
Denise Lyons. "Yesterday's game took a lot out of us
physically and we couldn't go back-to-back. But College of
New Jersey is a good team. That's why they're ranked so
high."
Erin Pivovarnick scored on a direct kick and Christine Mullin
found the back of the net on a corner kick as the Lions took a 2-0
lead at the half. Lauren DiStefano added a second half goal.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) finished the game with 15 saves
for KSC while Alissa Kacar stopped all five Owl shots.
It was the second time the two teams have met with TCNJ also
winning in 2000.
"Going 1-1 against two topped ranked teams on the road isn't too
bad, " added Lyons, whose team defeated Johns Hopkins 2-1 on
Saturday. "Now we have to regroup and do well in our region."
KSC will be at Westfield State on Wednesday for a 7 p.m.
game.
