'KEENE, N.H. 9/27/03 - Keene State College and Western Conn.
State University battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in a
Homecoming game at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday. The game
was a rematch of last year's LEC Championship won by KSC 1-0.
Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass.) scored a first half goal
for Keene State and David Forero (West Haven, Conn.) netted the
tying goal for WCSU in the second half.
With just a few strong scoring opportunities in the first half
by both teams, KSC finally got on board on a goal by Scott.
Following a free kick, Casey Banks (Westborough, Mass.) set Scott
up in front with a centering pass.
After KSC Goalie Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) denied Daniel
Ribeiro (Ridgefield, Conn.) with a diving stop, the Colonials got
the equalizer on a goal by Forero, who finished off a through ball
from Bradley Fidler (Morgantown, Pa.).
Both teams had a chance to win the game in regulation.
Forero had a drive stopped by Beck at the five-minute mark and
Colonials' goalie Mark Pataky (Trumbull, Conn.) saved Jim Hogan's
(Plymouth, Mass.) header attempt with 2:28 to play.
WCSU had an opportunity to winthe game in the closing seconds of
the first half, but Beck picked Forero's header out of the air with
25 seconds to play.
Fidler had the best scoring attempt in the second overtime, but
his drive sailed over the cross bar with 1:44 left.
Beck had six saves for KSC (6-3-1, 1-0-1 LEC) while Pataky
finished with four saves for the Colonials (7-2-1, 1-0-1 LEC).
KSC is at Williams on Tuesday (4:15 p.m.).
