KEENE, N.H. 10/2/04 - Eric Scott's (West Springfield) second
goal of the game at the 1:31 mark of the first overtime lifted
Keene State College to a dramatic 4-3 Little East Conference men's
soccer victory over previously undefeated Southern Maine in a
homecoming game at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Scott fired in his own rebound from 30-yards out to give KSC,
ranked fifth in New England, the victory. It was his team-leading
seventh goal of the season for the sophomore midfielder who also
had an assist to go with his two goals.
Southern Maine, ranked eighth in New England, struck for the
first goal at the 6:31 mark when Adam Bial (Wenham, Mass.) headed
in a perfect feed from Zach Ansely (Tallahassee, Fla.).
John Harke (Leeds, Mass.) knotted the score five minutes later
putting in a loose ball for his third goal of the season.
Andy Budelman (Rochester, N.H.) put USM up 2-1later in the half.
The senior forward stole the ball and fired in his team-leading
ninth goal of the season. Joey Amaio (Wethersfield, Conn.)
completed the first half scoring when he finished off a pass from
Ralph Rocco (Groton, Mass.) at the 36:43 mark.
Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass.) gave KSC's its first lead
of the game midway in the second half. The sophomore midfielder
finished off a pair of perfect passes by sliding the ball into the
far corner past the outstretched hand of USM Chris Willard
(Hampton, Conn.) Budelman tied the game again with 13:18 remaining
converting a center pass from Ed Weddington (Augusta, Me.).
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) had four saves and Willard
stopped 11 shots for USM ( 5-1-3, 0-1-1 LEC).
Keene State (7-1-1, 2-0 LEC hosts UMass-Boston in a make-up LEC
game on Monday (6:30 p.m.).
