KEENE, N.H. 10/4/04- Casey Banks (Westborough, Mass.) had a goal
and two assists to lead Keene State College to a 4-0 shutout
victory over UMass-Boston in a Little East Conference men's soccer
game played Monday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
Undefeated in its last seven games, KSC improves to 8-1-1 (3-0
LEC) while the Beacons fall to 4-3-1 (1-2 LEC). Coming into the
game for Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.), Nick Trottier (White River
Junction, Vt.) gave KSC a 1-0 halftime lead. His shot found the
found the far corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
Ralph Rocco (Groton, Mass.), who was named LEC rookie of the week,
got an assist on the goal.
Beacon goalie Rich DaSilva (Medford, Mass.) kept it a one goal
game when he made a leaping finger-tip save off a shot from Rocco
midway in the second half.
KSC eventually added to its lead at the 29:03 mark when Banks
tipped John Harke's (Leeds, Mass.) shot past DaSilva. Less than two
minutes later, Banks fielded a long boot from goalie Brandon Beck
(Johnstown, N.Y.) and raced down the right side untouched and
deposited the ball in the net for his seventh goal of the season.
Later in the half, Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass.) netted
his team-leading eighth of the season, a blast from 30-yards out,
to round out the scoring.
Beck (two saves) and Matt Caron (Amston,Conn.) (one save) shared
the shutout for the Owls. DaSilva finished the game with seven
saves.
Keene State travels to Babson College on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
