KEENE, N.H. 10/9/04 - Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.) had two
goals to lead Keene State College to a 6-0 shutout victory over
rival Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference women's
soccer game played Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.
Undefeated in its last six games, Keene State improves to 8-3-1
and remains undefeated in the LEC (3-0-1). PSU, which suffered its
third straight shutout, falls to 6-6 (2-2 LEC).
Stevens scored the first two goals of the game in the first
half. The sophomore forward made a nifty cross-over dribble for the
game's initial goal and later scored on an indirect kick play. It
was her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Tara Wagner (Avon, Conn.), Missy Mangual (East Berlin, Conn.),
Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent, Me.), and Molly Blanchette (Canterbury, N.H.)
added second half goals for the Owls. It was Cyr's first college
goal.
Midway in the second half, PSU's Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs,
Mass.) put the ball in the net, but the goal was called back
because of a foul in the box.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) had three saves on the way to
notching her sixth shutout of the season. Hayley Quinones
(Waitsfield, Vt.) also had three saves for the Panthers.
Keene State has won the last five games between the two rivals
and is undefeated against PSU in their last eight meetings.
Plymouth's last win over KSC came during the 1998 season.
Keene State is at Williams College on Wednesday (4:30 p.m.).
Plymouth State is at Southern Maine next Saturday.
