'TAMPA, FLA. 3/17/04 - Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) and
Corey Bell (Swanzey, N.H.) both tossed complete game seven inning
wins to lead the Keene State College baseball team to a
doubleheader sweep over Hamilton College (6-1 and 8-3) in Tampa on
Wednesday.
Stromgren, a freshman, gave up just one unearned run and one hit
while striking out 11 and walking two batters to notch his first
college win in the opener.
The Owls took a 3-0 lead in the third on a pair of Hamilton
errors and an RBI single by Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon,
N.H.). They added one more run in fourth on a Matt Orszylak
(Campton, N.H.), sacrifice fly. KSC completed its scoring
with two more runs in the fifth. Hickman had a RBI double and
John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) added a sacrifice fly.
Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) also had a couple of hits
in the game.
Bell scattered eight hits and fanned seven and walked two to
pick up his first win of the season in the second game.
KSC went up for good with a four run fourth inning that featured
RBI hits off the bats of Tim Kendrick (Middletown, R.I.) and Craig
Bryer (Plymouth, Mass.).
Bill Green (Montgomery, N.Y.), who went three-for-three, hit his
first home run of the season in a two-run fifth inning.
Pat Austin (Wallingford, Conn.) also had three hits in the game.
Keene State (4-2) will play a doubleheader against Babson
College on Friday.
