'CLEARWATER, FLA. 3/19/04 - The Keene State College
baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader (3-2 and 13-7)
to Babson College, Friday in Clearwater, Florida.
Trailing 2-0, KSC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh
innings to send the game into extra innings. Bill Green's
(Montgomery, N.Y.) sacrifice fly cut the deficit to
2-1. In the seventh, Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.)
singled and moved to third base on a sacrifice. He came home on a
pinch-hit single off the bat of John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) to tie
the game.
The Beavers scored a run in the eighth inning to pull out the
win.
Jim Slack (Manchester, N.H.) (1-1) gave up two earned runs and
six hits during his six innings on the mound. He fanned eight
and walked two batters. Former Swamp Bat pitcher Jason Kosow
had eight strikeouts in his complete game win for the
Beavers. Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) had two hits for KSC
in the game.
KSC went ahead 4-0 in the second game, but could not hold on for
the win.
Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) had a RBI single in the first
and Green and Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.), and Pat Austin
(Wallingford, Conn.) had consecutive run-producing hits in the
second.
Babson scored four in the third and four more times in the
fourth to go ahead for good. Peter Bergeron (Keene, N.H.),
who gave up four runs while fanning seven in his three innings on
the mound, took the loss. His record dipped to 0-2 this season.
Jason Shea (Hatfield, Mass.), Matt Brewer (Wiscasset, Me.) and Mike
Cook (Dover, Mass.) each pitched an inning.
Green had two hits for KSC in the game.
KSC concludes its Spring Week trip with a twinbill against Colby
College on Saturday.
