'KEENE, N.H. 4/10/04 - The Keene State College baseball
team collected 35 hits and clouted five home in a Little East
Conference doubleheader sweep (25-8 and 10-2) over Rhode Island
College at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
It was the fourth straight win for KSC 9-6 (3-0 LEC) who remain
undefeated in LEC play. RIC drops to 9-9 (0-3 LEC).
Keene State, which exploded for 25 hits in the opener, scored
four runs in fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Pat Austin
(Wallingford, Conn.) and Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) tied a
KSC record with five hits each in the game. Hickman also
belted his second home run of the season and collected five RBIs.
Austin finished with three RBIs. Mike Masseur (Warwick, R.I.)
went three-for-five with three RBIs in the game.
Mike Naylor (Warwick, R.I.) led RIC with three hits and an
RBI.
Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) (2-0) pitched seven innings with
six strikeouts and one walk to notch his second win of the season.
Matt Brannon (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss for the
Anchormen.
Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) had three hits including a
grand slam home run and Ryan Kohler (Alstead, N.H.) scattered seven
hits on the mound in the second game.
Tim Kendrick (Middletown, R.I.) hit a two-run homer, his first
of the season to put KSC up 4-0 in the fourth inning. Matt
Beams' second home run of the year, a three run shot in the sixth
made it 6-1. Schilling's grand slam, his second home run of
the day, and third of the season capped the Owls offensive attack.
Kohler fanned six to improve to 3-1. Brandon White
(Foster, R.I.) took the loss for RIC.
Mike Naylor (Warwick, R.I.) had three hits for the Anchormen.
KSC hosts Amherst College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
