'New London, N.H. - The Keene State College baseball team scored
five times in the first three innings of an 8-3 road victory over
Colby-Sawyer College at the Kelsey Athletic Fields.
The Owls improve to 10-9, while the Chargers fall to 7-13.
Starting pitcher Mike Corsano (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) allowed
two runs, scattered seven hits, and struck out six Chargers in
eight innings to pick up his first win of the season. Corsano
was supported by an offense, which collected 15 hits and was led by
Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) who was five-for-five with a
pair of doubles.
Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) went three-for-five for the
Owls and teammates Pat Austin (Wallinford, Conn.) and Bill Green
(Montgomery, N.Y.) had two hits apiece.
Colby-Sawyer's Kevan Donovan (Nashua, N.H.) went two-for-four
with a double and Justin Litchfield (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded
two doubles.
After the first batter of the game was retired, Keene State had
four straight hits en route to a two-run first inning. Mike
Masseur (Warwick, R.I.) doubled down the right field line, moved to
third on a base hit by Hickman, and came home on a single from
Green. Schilling then doubled to drive in Green.
Hickman had an RBI single in the second and the Owls added two
more runs in the third on a squeeze bunt by Tim Kendrick
(Middletown, R.I.) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of John Grainger
(Keene, N.H.).
Keene State tacked on three insurance runs over the last three
innings and the Chargers added one in the ninth on a sacrifice fly
from Chris Ames (Franklin, N.H.).
KSC travels to the University of Southern Maine for a Little
East Conference doubleheader (12:00 p.m.).
